Are We Chasing Success or Happiness?
Hi everyone,
This is from muttonpeice.blogspot.com.
Today, I got some information and goosebumps in my English class. My English sir taught us a poem called “Things That Haven’t Been Done Before,” written by Edgar Albert Guest. The poem is all about courage and determination, like Columbus, who dared to discover lands beyond the sea.
After the session, something curious came into my mind. It made me think: Why should I do the same thing everyone else is doing? Why should I follow the same high-salary path just because everyone is chasing it?
One thing my English sir said really touched me. He told us that his son was studying what he had dreamed of, even though it had less scope. I found that beautiful because sometimes happiness comes from doing what we genuinely love, not simply from choosing what is considered “successful.”
After the class, I searched more about the poem and thought deeply about my own dreams. I realised that even if I choose a path that many others are choosing, that doesn't necessarily make my choice wrong. What matters is how well I walk that path. I want to become one of the best at whatever I choose and be an example for others.
Why is everyone chasing only salary-based jobs? Somewhere along the way, people seem to have forgotten their dreams, happiness, passion, and enjoyment.
A high salary is important, but it shouldn't be the only definition of success.
So, before choosing a career, ask yourself:
"Is this really what I want ,or am I choosing it because everyone else is choosing it?"
Choose your path thoughtfully. Work hard. Become better at it. And most importantly, don't forget to live while chasing success.
Think. Choose. And do what truly matters to you.
